The Pendants are made using a glass called borosilicate or boro for short. It's a hard glass (Pyrex is made from borosilicate glass) so while your jewelry is fragile because it's glass, it is still very durable. I will treat your loved one or pet's cremains with great respect and care and I will return to you any ashes I do not use. I only need about 1/2 teaspoon for each pendant you would like to have made. Once you place your order I will send you a container and postage paid envelope to send them to me. If you need the process expedited, contact me and we can discuss suitable containers for sending me the cremains directly. I welcome photos or stories about your loved one or pets. I think it helps put me in the right frame of mind and really engage in the process. Once I create the flower design, I fuse a thin layer of cremains behind the flower and seal them in with many layers of colored glass. The ashes become part of the piece forever. They can be viewed as a sandy white background to the flower. The pendant then goes into a 1000 degree kiln and the temperature ramps down slowly over a period of many hours. This process is called annealing and it relieves the stress from the glass making it durable enough to last a lifetime. The finished piece is fitted with a sterling jump-ring and strung on a sterling filled chain. Now you are able to keep your loved one close to your heart always. For a man or woman who doesn't wear jewelry, your pendant can easily be made into a keychain or totem. If you love the idea of a glass memorial but don't have cremains I can also use small amounts of sand from their favorite beach.
